History
Little Sprouts Community Preschool was founded by Jenna Wright in 1995. She served as the program director of the preschool, which was located in the upstairs Sunday school rooms of the United Methodist Church. Two part-time staff and a beginning enrollment of twelve children grew quickly to forty-two children with an apparent need of a larger space to accommodate the preschool. Through generous donations and a successful building campaign led by the community and Mrs. Wright, the program moved into a new modular building in August 2004. After Mrs. Wright moved out of state, the board of directors hired Kim Frost in 2007 as director. Mrs. Frost served Little Sprouts faithfully and until 2014. The board of directors hired Lora Ely as the current director. Today, the program is licensed as a large center and serves children and their families in the Cedaredge community and beyond and employs six staff members.
The program is governed by a board of directors who believe in maintaining the best resources available in leadership, teachers, innovative curriculum and advancement in learning and play materials. Remaining one of a very few private non-profit preschools in operation is a high priority. It is of tremendous importance that the preschool remain mission minded and strive for excellence. Our mission remains from that first day in 1995 that every child, regardless of background, deserves a clean, safe and loving environment in which to learn and grow. It is the preschool’s responsibility to provide a nurturing atmosphere with a defined set of goals in order to meet and exceed those expectations using knowledge, compassion and the highest integrity in all aspects of the program.
